Good Afternoon from Pebbles!

My Mini Lucia

There has been a running joke that Pebbles is a miniature version of my shy shepherd Lucia. Hence the nickname Mini Lucia. Can you see the resemblance?

Dog Pile!!!

Little Pebbles has become quite the cuddle bug. Her new favorite spot is on my lap. It started with cuddles next to the other puppies.

And became a puppy pile on my lap this morning...

And now little Miss Pebbles is always curled up on the couch with us and asking for affection. She lifts her little paws and gently taps my arm to ask for belly rubs. She's just an absolute doll.

Couch Potato

Over the past few days Pebbles has gotten super comfortable and confident. She's even become quite a little cuddle bug. She jumps right up on the couch now, which is really just a giant dog bed at our house. She'll bunch up some blankets and snuggle in with me or next to one of the other puppies.

Let's go for a ride!

Pebbles and I went for a nice long drive today. She was a little nervous when we first got into the car, but after about 20 minutes she was a pro. She went from shaking in my lap to happily riding shotgun curled up in my hoodie. She actually likes going for car rides now because she knows it means fun stuff to come.

It's Playtime!

Pebbles is opening up in leaps and bounds. She has started to follow me around the house and has left the security of the dog beds to explore the toy box. We have discovered that she LOVES squeaky toys. If it has a squeaker, then she wants to bounce around with it and make it talk to her. She's been making music all morning. She is also loving the antlers we have scattered around the house.

Little Pebbles has no problem sharing her toys. Our pit bull puppy Apollo is constantly stealing toys and bones from everyone and Pebbles gently gives him whatever she has and happily goes over to the toy pile to pick out a new toy. She is just a total sweetheart.

She is also starting to visit the puppies and I on the couch. She quietly walks over to the couch and looks up at you with those beautiful brown eyes. I'll put my hand down and she will give me finger kisses while she wags her tiny tail. She is starting to trust and open up. It is a beautiful thing.

Tail wags

If you have ever had a shy puppy, then you know that the first tail wag is a magical moment that you treasure forever. Little Pebbles gave us the gift of a tail wag last night and ever since then that little tail has been curled up and bouncing with happiness. She is starting to get more comfortable and hasn't had any accidents in the house. She knows that she has done something amazing every time she does her business outside. She has gone from crawling outside to prancing with pride. She is an adorable pumpkin. I love seeing her happy.

Sweater Shopping

I don't know if you've noticed... but it is COLD outside. Poor little Pebbles had to wear a hand me down sweater from my 28 pound terrier yesterday and she was swimming in it. So we went on a trip to Petsmart to buy Pebbles her very own sweater! She looked adorable in everything, but we decided that purple was her color. So now she looks fabulous and feels a whole lot warmer. Of course she still prefers to travel inside my zipped up hoodie for extra warmth. You can't beat body heat.

Meeting Pebbles

I met little Pebbles for the first time last Saturday. Pebbles came to LDCRF as a stray from North Carolina and has been at the rescue for over a year and a half now. I think she actually came to LDCRF about the same time that I started fostering dogs with them. She crawled out of the van on her tummy and shook in the volunteer's arms. She was a very shy baby and events are rough for them. I checked in with her a few times during the event and each time she was a little less shaky. By the end of the event her little tail was untucked and she was cruising around cautiously in the volunteer's arms observing the chaos.

This weekend we brought her home with us as our new foster. She is the tiniest foster that I have ever had, weighing in at only 10 lbs, but I already love this shy sweetheart. After some initial nervousness she has settled into the fluffy dog beds and started to explore the house. I can't wait for her to gain confidence and come out of her shell.
